Project ECHO
Project ECHO
Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes
Project ECHO is a distance-based telementoring model that connects University of Utah specialists with multiple primary care providers (PCPs) through Zoom to facilitate didactic and case-based learning.
With patient access to specialty care often delayed for months, Project ECHO enables providers to receive timely specialty guidance without requiring patients to wait for a specialist appointment. When providers submit a case for consultative discussion, they receive expert feedback, answers to clinical questions, and written recommendations from University of Utah specialists.
More Knowledge, Not People…
Project ECHO is committed to addressing the needs of vulnerable populations by ensuring communities have the right knowledge, in the right place, at the right time.
Participants consistently report that Project ECHO:
- Helps keep patients in primary care while empowering PCPs to make confident clinical decisions with specialist support.
- Provides collaborative information-sharing that benefits the entire practice, not just a single patient.
- Offers convenient, supportive access to high-quality expert guidance for more challenging patient cases.
- Delivers up-to-date, evidence-based clinical pearls and best practices for healthcare providers.
